WORD CLOUD GENERATOR
Wordle is an
educational web tool that generates “word clouds”. It is another way of
presenting words visually by combining words and arranging them in different
layouts, fonts and colors. Individuals may find this website interesting for
designing book covers, combining vocabulary words, highlighting important
texts, creating image headers for blogs, merging writing pieces for artworks
and other project ideas. It is a great tool for teachers and students of all
ages.
Wordle, just like other web tools, requires secure
internet connection for better usage. It is definitely FREE and does not need
an account to create word clouds. It has a digital library where users may
share their own ‘wordles’ and look into other ready-made ‘wordles’ as guides
and resources. In creating a word cloud, we can add a bunch of texts or paste
an URL from sites that is compatible with Atom or RSS (Rich Site Summary) feed.
However, in order to create a ‘wordle’, a Java application must be installed.
Certain internet browsers also add a factor in using Wordle. On my case, Wordle
works best through Mozilla Firefox. One of the disadvantages in generating a
word cloud is that we cannot customize the arrangement of words on our own.
There are only certain positions for arrangements. It is unlike other word
cloud generators that can be arranged to different shapes and letters. Another
thumbs-down about Wordle is saving the image. I am not too sure if it is due to
my internet connection. I just have to take a screenshot in order to save it on
my computer.

Interesting Ways to Use Wordle in the Classroom

Hi Ms. Maria,
ReplyDeleteI think Wordle would be great for students to use for spelling words and learning new vocabulary. It's free and really easy to use!
Great word cloud on the Trojan Horse! All those words made me think about the story. I love that we do not have to create an account to use Wordle. It makes it so much easier! Thanks for sharing that tip too! I thought I would have to keep randomizing until it got big by chance. Lol. Great job!
