EDU 641NC 9-1 Student Blog: Digital Etiquette

Navigating Digital Etiquette in the Age of Social Media and Student Data Privacy      In today's digital age, educators are increasingly using social media platforms to engage with students outside of the traditional classroom environment. While this can promote better communication and a sense of community, it also raises significant concerns about digital etiquette. Teachers must carefully consider the boundaries between professional and personal interactions on social media. A primary issue is maintaining professionalism while ensuring that their online presence remains a positive role model for students (Thompson, 2022). Inappropriate posts, casual interactions, or overfamiliarity with students online can blur the lines of authority, leading to misunderstandings or breaches of teacher-student relationships. Educators must, therefore, adopt clear policies on how, when, and why they engage with students via social media to protect both parties.      ...

EDU 641NC 3-2 Student Blog: Funding and Sustaining Technology Initiatives in Schools

This blog will explore two effective ways schools can fund technology initiatives and outline a plan to ensure sustained funding beyond the initial purchase. Two Ways to Fund Technology Initiatives Grant Funding One of the most common ways to fund educational technology initiatives is through grant funding. Numerous government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private foundations offer grants specifically designed to support technology integration in schools. For example, the federal government's Title IV-A grants under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provide schools with funds to improve technology access and integration (ISTE, 2020). Additionally, organizations like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Google for Education offer grants to support innovative educational technology projects. Schools can apply for these grants by submitting proposals that outline their specific needs, the intended impact of the initiative, and a detailed budget. Partnerships w...

Here is a student-friendly video used in Nearpod's digital le...

Google Applications in Education

Image
Google Applications in Education offers various tools and features that foster collaboration, communication, flexibility, accessibility, organization, and engagement in the educational environment while providing a cost-effective and user-friendly suite of tools for both students and educators. As a teacher leader, one way to use this powerful platform is to encourage collaborative lesson planning, curriculum development, or the creation of teaching resources. This allows real-time collaborations and feedback from multiple colleagues. Throughout this course, I explored different Google applications that I can integrate into my classroom instruction. Reviewing each tool's existing features and discovering its new features was a great refresher. In Week 1, I learned more about Google Mail, Calendar, Keep, and Tasks. I learned new things: creating an email signature using WiseStamp, subscribing to my colleagues' calendars, exploring the advanced search bar setting in Gmail, crea...

Rota: Not Just an Obscure Blip on the Globe

What initially comes to mind when you hear the word "geography"? People will most likely associate the word "maps" as a response. However, geography is not just about maps. Geography is broad and covers a lot of themes to have a greater understanding of the relationships between humans and their environments.   This unit is one of my favorite things to discuss with my students. However, the Social Studies curriculum provided by our school district is mainly based on geographical features of the United States of America. Students in the Northern Mariana Islands need help grasping fundamental ideas and applying many geographical terms to where they live. Therefore, it is on our hands as educators to bridge that missing link by providing rigorous and relevant tasks and ensuring that each student leaves with a depth of knowledge.   I have taught second grade for five years, and our 3rd Quarter integrated project is all about the geography of Rota. In this performance ta...
